FORWARD

Navigating the universe of options for what comes next after high school should be easy, unfortunately, it is not. For dual enrollment students, that process starts a little earlier and includes some additional considerations. With planning and strategy, students can use dual enrollment to build an experience that gives them a significant advantage when they head to college or enter the workforce. When strategically deployed, dual enrollment can help you save time and money and gain experience, while also being better prepared to navigate college and have a successful experience the first year and beyond.  But how do you plan for a journey when you don’t yet know the destination? Should you explore courses that target college, career, or both? What gives you the most options, the best options, and the best start on your college and career goals?  It helps to have the road-tested advice of an experienced guide who knows the system inside and out.

I have the honor of leading the only national organization that supports, guides, trains, and connects the many thousands of dual enrollment professionals working in these programs across the nation, NACEP. Our organization serves as a beacon and resource to “unmaze” the unique complexities of dual enrollment programs for colleges, universities, and high schools doing this important work. Unfortunately, there is no NACEP for students and parents. They lack a resource that helps them understand our world and how to best navigate and leverage early college experiences to meet their ultimate college and career goals and use their knowledge to build a successful transition to college. Until now.

Dual enrollment students and their families looking for a guide to help them on their journey are lucky to have two thoughtful, passionate, knowledgeable education professionals who have distilled decades of experience working with students into this resource. Within this book are insights and advice that will help students explore dual enrollment opportunities that match their long-term career and educational goals. Use this resource to better understand dual enrollment, how it works, and how it can work for you. Participation in dual enrollment comes with a bevy of research-backed benefits, and with better knowledge of the program, how it works, and the ways it integrates with college

you can maximize the application of your hard-earned credits so that they help you transition to that next step on your educational journey.

“Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.” Arthur Ashe

Use this guide to build your path so you can focus on the doing and enjoy all you are learning and experiencing with an eye towards the future, your future.
